Claudia M. Cardona

Senior Scientist and Principal Investigator

Originally from Colombia, South America, Dr. Cardona obtained a BS in Chemistry from Brooklyn College, C.U.N.Y, NY; an MS in Chemistry, with an emphasis in Analytical Chemistry, from Florida International University, FL; and a PhD in Chemistry, highlighting the synthesis and characterization of redox- and photo-active dendrimers and their supramolecular interactions, from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL, with an individual NRSA NIH Minority Predoctoral Fellowship. In most of her seventeen plus years in Materials Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry she has focused on uses for nano-materials, including work at NIEHS Marine and Freshwater Biomedical Sciences Center at the University of Miami (FL) and with Luna nano-works, a division of Luna Innovations Inc. (VA).  She has also served as an Adjunct Professor in the Chemistry Department at Virginia Tech to establish collaborative work between industry and academia. Dr. Cardona has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and is the lead inventor on a provision patent application.
